We share no liability for any use of this program. You are on your
own. If you miss the island, the landfall or the rare one...you, the
user accepts all responsibility. We only ask that it not be modified
and that, if distributed, be distributed intact.
This program requires two additional files. The first is DXCC.DAT,
which is an ASCII file containing, in the following sequence: Prefix;
Latitude;Longitude;Name. This file may be edited with EDLIN or any
word processor which permits ASCII saving. The entries may be any the
user desires, Countries, Cities; etc. Please take a look at the
formatted DAT file before changing.
The Second Required File is the Initialization or DXCC.INI file. This
will be created when you choose this item from the Menu and "fill in
the blanks". You will want to know your home Latitude & Longitude as
well as your printer codes for the Expand On and Expand Off modes.
There are only two times in which you will ever use a minus sign with
this program...when entering Data; Locations in either the Southern or
Eastern Hemispheres must have a preceding minus sign. If the user is
initilizing the program for either Southern or Eastern Hemisphere, a
minus sign will be required. All entries are to be made in Degrees
and Minutes. The program handles this conversion.
The major modification in this version was the addition of an
immediate Bearing from the initilized QTH to the Country requested
under Menu Item #1 of the Search Menu. This particular Search must be
Specific. That is to say, it will only find an exact match (including
case). JA5 will NOT be found, nor J. JA should pop up. By the same
token, if searching for a Partial Prefix, an exact match will NOT be
found, if you want JA you will have to enter a J .
The idea is to look up your desired country by its prefix, if you don't get a
response from Menu Item #1, try Menu item #2...note the exact prefix
then re-enter Menu Item #1 and using the exact match, you should find
the Bearing from your Location. If not found, then use Menu item #3 and enter
a portion of the country name. This search will be a trifle slower but should
pull most everything out - note the "Exact Prefix's".
If using a Hard Disk, you will find the program running fairly rapidly. The
Searches are now in arrays, after loading, they go well. If you are running
floppies, you might want to experiment with a Ram Disk - it should fly...
Since everyone else is citing "Shareware", we will too. Consider this as
"Shareware". If you want to send a green stamp, go right ahead. We'll not
complain. If you don't wish to contribute towards our paper supply, then use
the program and enjoy. There is no intention of updating or making further
modifications, nor do we intend to notify any supporting user of anything
(unless we hear something really rare on the bands). Its doubtful that we'll
here anything rare, since all of the European Stations are now found in
someones net. Frankly, the net operator will probably give you the Beam
Heading, so you may not even need a program such as this to locate France,
Germany or some other exotic QTH.
We hope you find a use for this program. It represents more than a
few hours with the books. Graphics by N4HPZ, Data from K4KG and
reading/writing by NF4A.
